Brazil’s digital pharmacy channel is becoming a key route to market for OTC and Consumer Health brands. Authorized networks and omnichannel execution are becoming increasingly important for scalable market entry.
Authorized Pharmacy Networks Are Reshaping OTC Launches
Digital retail is reshaping Consumer Health in Brazil. Digital pharmacy retail already represents more than 11% of pharmacy sales. Large chains are central to this shift: Abrafarma’s 29 member networks operate more than 11,500 stores and account for around 53% of medicine dispensing nationally.
This concentration makes major chains attractive launch partners, while Brazil’s pharmacy retail landscape also includes regional and independent networks that can provide targeted geographic coverage.
OTC & Consumer Health Brazil: Three Launch Models
For international companies, three models are particularly relevant:
- Chain-owned omnichannel: Authorized pharmacy chains combine stores, apps, delivery and click-and-collect.
- Digital platform partnerships: Third-party platforms can expand consumer access and logistics, subject to requirements for authorized pharmacies.
- Regional authorized networks: Strong regional groups enable targeted market access and lower-risk launch testing before national expansion.

ANVISA Pharmacy Authorization Shapes Digital Market Access
ANVISA pharmacy authorization remains important for digital OTC distribution. Pharmacies and drugstores conducting remote dispensing must:
- be legally authorized
- operate under pharmacist responsibility
- identify the dispensing establishment for internet orders
- display the required sanitary license and ANVISA authorization
ANVISA also maintains a public authorization database of pharmacies and drugstores authorized to operate. For Consumer Health companies, authorization, traceability and regulatory compliance therefore remain key considerations when evaluating digital channels.
Brazil Digital Pharmacy Growth: Outlook Toward 2040
Brazil’s online pharmacy market is projected to reach approximately USD 3.5 billion by 2034, reflecting a 7.24% CAGR. Toward 2040, digital pharmacy is expected to become increasingly omnichannel, integrating:
- pharmacy apps
- e-prescriptions
- rapid delivery
- other digital services
Success will depend on selecting authorized partners with strong digital reach, logistics and category execution.
